EMPORIUM — A number of environmental education programs will be offered at Sizerville State Park over the Labor Day weekend.
Pollinators: Honeybee Edition is set for 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Pavilion 4 with guest speaker Robert Hoppe presenting information on honeybees and how he makes his own products. He will bring some bees and beehives so the audience can observe up close. Learn more about the importance of honeybees and the role they play in our surroundings and economy.
Survival Skills will be held 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the campground amphitheater. Join state park volunteer Steve Bajor and learn what to do if you were to get lost in the forest. He will cover camping and emergency safety along with how to start a fire in the middle of the wilderness. Feel free to bring snacks and a blanket.
Join the park educator from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, near Pavilion 3, for Stream Study to look for macroinvertebrates, like stoneflies and crayfish, in the stream along with learning their importance. A short talk will be followed by exploring the stream; expect to get wet and bring water shoes, swimsuits and towel.
The pool will close Sunday, but first join the park educator and lifeguard at 11 a.m. on the pool deck for Sizerville’s Splish Splash Bash. Test your fishing skills and learn something about local aquatic critters during the fun, water-themed program.
In case weather conditions programs may be moved or canceled. For accommodation due to disability, contact the park office at (814) 486-5605.
