BROOKVILLE — Bradford senior Brayden Frair took first place at Brookville in a three-way cross country meet with the host Raiders, as well as St. Marys.
Brookville and St. Marys battled to a 37-37 tie, but St. Marys held the edge on a tiebreaker, which was the best sixth man.
Friar, the defending District 9 Class 2A champion, ran a 17:27.98 for the Owls on a very hot day on one of the toughest courses in District 9.
Friar was followed by Brookville’s Ty Fiscus (17:37.8) and St. Marys’ Brandon Henry (17:54.6) Jacob Nedimyer (17:55.78).
Evan McKaslen of Brookville was fifth (18:14.6), followed by Bradford sophomore Evan Troisi (19:07).
“Brayden has run the most miles this summer, but Evan has been putting in some real good work,” said Bradford coach Tom Tessena. “We were all tied at seven points each, but that’s where we fell apart.”
Bradford’s next two runners dropped out of the race, with Marcus Terwilliger coming on finish strong in 13th position (20:41). Freshmen Xavier Frontino and Jordan Pogue finished fourth and fifth for Bradford at 21:08 and 21:25.
“They did well in their first varsity meet,” Tessena said.
Also running for Bradford were: Nikolai Frontino (19th – 22:41), Cavan Drake (20th -24:11), Tony Mcdonald (21st – 24:23), Malyk Harpster (22nd-24:28), Eddie Youmanns (24th-24:56), and Luciano Santiago ( 26th – 27:42).
“We have three days to improve before we travel to Erie for the McDowell Invitational on Saturday,” Tessena said. “Our two top five guys had better be ready to run on that day.
In the middle school meet, seventh grader Charlie Vinelli had a great race taking third place in 13:50 over the two-mile layout. Langdon Krepp was seventh (15:31), Gavin Weart was 11th (15:47) while Owen Tingley took 13th (16:02). Brookville beat St.Marys for team honors. They will also compete at McDowell on Saturday.
