Drivers should expect to see those big yellow school buses during the morning commute once again, beginning Wednesday when Bradford Area School District resumes classes.
Bradford Area School District Transportation Director Barry Bryan said, “Be on the lookout for kids running across streets and roads.”
Bryan reminded motorists that passing a stopped school bus is against the law and emphasized that if a bus is stopped on any road of a four-way intersection, “You can’t go through. You have to wait until the lights come off the bus.”
In the related article, AAA East Central has launched its annual School’s Open-Drive Carefully campaign, aimed at keeping children safe this school year.
Buses inevitably run behind schedule during the first week or so of a new school year as young children learn to navigate school life and drivers learn routes and stops. Furthermore, the district is implementing its new transportation management software system this year.
While personnel tested the system during summer school, Bryan said, “The buses always run late that first week of school and with the new routing software, we could be behind a little bit.”
Parents can download the district’s new busing app, My Ride K-12, for all bus information – including estimated arrival time.
For all information school-related, download the district’s new mobile communications app available on the App Store for iPhones and the Play Store for Android devices. Just type “Bradford Area Schools” in the applicable store’s search bar.
The free custom app offers news, events and live updates for the school community as well as a set of features for parent-teacher communication. The secure two-way system, called Rooms, replaces the district’s longtime use of the Remind app.
