ODD: Pennsylvania has a reputation for being a bit … interesting.
The Pennsylvania tourism site VisitPa.com has a list of “16 top weird and wacky PA destinations.” This is going to take us a couple days to cover.
None of them are local, so the list could make for some interesting road trips.
The Mutter Museum in Philadelphia is first on the list. The collection is made up of items from the medical realm, like diseased body parts and slides of Albert Einstein’s brain. OK, so that one might not be for everyone.
How about The Pizza Brain in Philadelphia? It’s the world’s first pizza culture museum and shop. It boasts the largest collection of pizza-related items in the world — like a newsroom on election day (OK so we added that last bit as some inside humor).
Ringing Rocks Park in Upper Black Eddy is a famous park of igneous rock. “The 10-foot rock piles produce variously pitched ringing sounds when hit with a hammer or other rocks. While theories abound about how and why these ancient rocks sound like they do, scientists remain baffled.”
This one might have a specific audience in mind, too. It’s Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland in Allenwood. “Reptiland allows visitors to catch a glimpse of the less-loved members of the animal kingdom through daily feedings and regularly scheduled shows, where you can even touch a variety of reptile skins to feel the difference between turtles, snakes, and crocodiles!”
Pittsburgh’s Trundle Manor seems to almost defy explanation.
“Billing itself as ‘The most unusual tourist trap in the world meets the most bizarre private collection on display,’ a trip to Trundle Manor is a must-visit for those who love wacky, weird, and fun experiences.”
More about the manor and the list to come.
