HINSDALE: A lot of local folks have visited the Haunted Hinsdale House, which has been made into a research center and museum by current owner, Daniel Klaes.
Many could tell the story of the Dandy house and the mysterious and spooky activities there through the years. Dan makes sure that school children from around the region can visit and learn about the history and mysteries, too.
We wanted to bring you a bit of Dan’s story.
He and his family live in North Tonawanda, and recently learned their active cheerleading 13-year-old daughter, Shaylee, is sick. In May, they learned she has osteosarcoma — a rare and aggressive bone cancer that started in her femur and has spread to her lungs. She’s been undergoing an intensive, 8-month round of chemotherapy at Roswell Park and Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and will require surgery in August.
Benefits have been taking place online and in her community, including Shine Strong for Shaylee and a GoFundMe of https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-klaes-family-through-shaylees-journey
The Klaes family has been asking for positive thoughts and prayers for their little girl, and to raise awareness of childhood cancer.
Groups within the paranormal community have pulled together to host fundraising events for the family to help with medical expenses.
Information about Shaylee’s fight is being updated on Facebook at Shine Strong for Shaylee.
Osteosarcoma often develops in the osteoblast cells that form new bone. The bone the cancer cells make is not as strong as normal bone. About 1,000 new cases of osteosarcoma are reported each year in the U.S. It happens most often in children, teens, and young adults. And it happens slightly more often in males than in females.
