The 11th annual Creative Women Workshop, sponsored by the Bradford Landmark Society, will be held July 27 at the Crook Farm.
Held each year as a fundraiser for the Bradford Landmark Society and Crook Farm, the popular event can fill up fast, and reservations are now open.
Forget trying to learn something from YouTube. The Creative Women Workshop will teach you variety of skills and crafts using real teachers with actual knowledge, experience, and patience. They love what they do and are happy to pass that skill on.
There are a variety of new classes this year, as well as some old favorites. Each woman can pick four different classes and all classes will be held at the Crook Farm. Total cost is $45 which includes all four classes, lunch, and all supplies.
Classes include:
1. Little Pamphlet Booklets. Using marbleized paper folded into a small booklet, you’ll find dozens of uses for this clever idea. Teacher is Sarah Boser.
2. Button Flowers. Cute, handcrafted flowers using buttons, wire, and arranged inside a glass salt shaker are inventive. Teachers are Mary Boser and Lisa Miller.
3. Putz or Glitter Houses. Not just for Christmas, these little paper houses are fun to make and display. Teacher is Sally Costik.
4. Blacksmithing for Women. One of the Workshop’s favorite classes, Bruce Osgood, the Crook Farm’s expert blacksmith, will teach you to forge an iron towel hook. Class size is limited to four women per session.
5. Simply Stretching. Based on a popular PBS program, this class features a gentle, full body workout that combines dynamic strengthening and stretching exercise suitable for anyone. Improve your strength, posture, and flexibility. Andrea Wurster is the teacher.
6. Painting Flowers in Watercolor. Lynne Hobbs will teach you how to paint charming little paintings of garden flowers. It’s easy and fun.
7. Zen Meditation Sand Garden. Zen Gardens recreate the essence of the natural world in a small space. Bob Harris, local master gardener, will help you design and build your own personal, miniature sand garden.
8. Cylinder Paper Lanterns for candles or lights. Cut out paper designs make each one unique and special. An upcycled project. Taught by Mary Gibbs.
9. Jezykl or porcupine ball or Polish Star. A traditional holiday/harvest decoration that dates back over one hundred years in Polish folk art. Taught by Tammy Dittman.
10. Become a Zentangle artist. A Zentangle drawing is an abstract, patterned drawing that is a form of artistic meditation. Different from regular drawing, painting or other art forms, but easy to learn. Sally Costik is the teacher.
11. Crochet or Cross Stitch is a popular skill to learn. Mother/Daughter team Judy and Dina Gates are longtime crafters who are eager to teach the basic skills needed and promise that no previous experience is needed.
12. Punched Tin Lanterns. Another upcycled craft that is fun and useful. Using a votive or tea light, you’ll light up your world. Mary Gibbs is the teacher.
13. Delicate dried flowers pressed inside a glass candle. A delightful craft. Becca Hilzinger is the teacher.
