MORE PA: Have you ever wondered where the world’s largest paint can stands?
Well, wonder no more!
It’s in Shippensburg, adjacent to a Benjamin Moore Paint store. The paint can is 35 feet tall, comes with a lid and a handle and could hold more than 178,000 gallons of paint. At the price we found on the internet, that would be about $17 million worth of paint!
However, the only paint it holds is the design itself. The giant can was a water storage tank before becoming a genius marketing tool.
The great “selfie spot” is along Interstate 81, with motorists saying it’s a good place to stop to stretch your legs and your imagination.
Have you wondered about the world’s largest clothespin? That, too, is a mystery we can solve. It’s in Philadelphia, because why not? It’s a sculpture. Claes Oldenburg sculpted the 45-ft. tall clothespin, made of 10 tons of Cor-Ten and stainless steel, in 1976.
It is said to resemble lovers entwining. Or maybe it’s just another weird Oldenburg piece like the Spoonbridge and Cherry in Minneapolis or the Needle, Thread and Knot in Milan, Italy.
We also have for records in Pennsylvania the world’s largest colored crayon at Crayola, the world’s largest Trojan donkey pinata in Philadelphia, the world’s largest thrift store in Selinsgrove, the world’s first true penitentiary which was Eastern State, the world’s largest general store at Country Junction, the world’s largest Yogi Bear at Cooksburg, the world’s largest coffee pot in Bedford, the world’s largest pickle ornament in Pittsburgh at Heinz, the first battery-electric freight train by Wabtec in Pittsburgh, largest teddy bear toss in Hershey, the largest cardboard box in York, and so many more. How fun!
