New students can now register for Accepted Student Days at SUNY Jamestown Community College at sunyjcc.edu/asd. The half-day events provide a relaxed opportunity to gain necessary information and tools to navigate college.
Cattaraugus County Campus dates are 9:30 a.m. to noon July 10 and Aug. 1.
Jamestown Campus dates are from 9 a.m. to noon June 27, July 17 and 30, and Aug. 14.
“Accepted Student Days do not replace our mandatory orientation, which will happen closer to the beginning of the fall semester,” said Colette Haight, coordinator of Academic Advising, counselor and associate professor at JCC. “It’s a way to get ahead of the curve in learning about our college systems and makes the whole process more manageable.”
Students who attend Accepted Student Days will meet JCC’s team of success navigators, who are available to answer questions and help make connections with campus supports and resources. There is time to learn how to register for classes, create a course schedule for fall, navigate student accounts, get a sneak peek into living on campus, and gain information about available services and how to access them.
“New students can also meet faculty and staff, and visit offices like Financial Aid and Accessibility,” Haight said. “It really eases students’ transition to college. You can see how much better they understand the fundamental pieces of their college experience and that they are ready to process their next steps by the time they get to orientation.”
