VIDEO: We’ve shared Duke Center author William Robertson’s books, both his historical fiction and his haunted collection, with readers, and now we want to share something more.
Bill tells us he has posted a video about a locally infamous house in Prentisvale, known for scaring folks for many years.
The video was created by Mark Polonia, “the tech guy at Mansfield University,” Bill said. It got 743 views on its first day online! At the time of this writing, it was up to 997 views.
“If you’d like to check it out, here is the link: https://youtu.be/35VWmaK98rs. The Loop House is a really creepy place that’s scared a lot of local folks!”
Bill has a website, bucktailsandbroomsticks.com, where he shares his Bucktails stories, about the famed Civil War regiment from McKean County. His horror work and ghost stories are on thehorrorhaven.com.
Bill has a YouTube channel @williamp.robertson1884 where he also shared an investigation of The Palmer Opera House in Cuba, N.Y., by Spirit Hunters Paranormal Group, and other stories.
It’s an interesting look at local legends and creepy tales.
SPOOKY: Speaking of spooky stuff, we came across a legend of a “goblin scarecrow,” a demonic looking thing with ratty clothes stuffed with bugs and creepy crawlies — charming, huh? It has a Jack-O-Lantern head, and allegedly roams through this section of Pennsylvania. Sometimes it chases folks out in the woods, other times it stands still and howls. Either way, it seems like something we’d like to avoid.
The first modern account of the thing came from Potter County in the 1950s when a group of hunters came upon it, but sightings have come in from McKean, Elk and Tioga counties too.
The book “Vampire Universe” by Jonathan Maberry tells the story of the scarecrow. We admit, it’s one we hadn’t heard before.
