The Bradford Area Public Library is offering a variety of summer workshops for area children. All of the workshops are free, but some will require students to register online beforehand.
“The workshops offer students in grades 5 to 12 a chance to use their leisure time in creative and artistic pursuits while enjoying the company of other kids,” says Marie Troskosky, the teen and tween book clubs’ advisor.
In June, the library is offering three workshops; one on polymer clay, another featuring Legos and a third workshop featuring poetry and scrapbooking.
There will be a polymer clay workshop for students held from 3 — 5 p.m. on June 17. Cortney Mealy, Pitt-Bradford Director of Arts, will teach students to make clay jewelry, magnets and keychains. This workshop is limited to 15 students and will require registration.
Little engineers will be intrigued by the Lego workshop, held from 3 to 5 p.m. on June 18 and 20. Children will use lego kits to create well-known landmarks.
A “Patch Poetry” workshop will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on June 24. This workshop, which will be led by Troskosky, will encourage children to use scrapbooking material to create a collage based around a poem, lyric or inspirational quote.
More workshops for tweens and teens will follow in July and August.
The library is also offering a range of programs for children who are infants to age 5. Summer reading programs for this group will begin on June 18.
More information and registration forms can be found on the library’s website or by contacting Bonnie Leposa, Children’s Coordinator, at programs@bradfordlibrary.org.
