MECHANICSBURG — The PIAA released its baseball and softball brackets on Friday for each of the six classifications.
Two local teams remain, and they are both in softball — District 9 and District 6-9 Class 4A champion St. Marys, as well as District 9 Class 1A runner-up Northern Potter.
St. Marys beat Clearfield, 10-0 for the D9 title, and rallied past Bellefonte, 2-1 in eight innings in its subregional game against Bellefonte on Thursday, avenging its 2023 loss to the Red Raiders.
Northern Potter beat Oswayo Valley 11-1 in the D9 1A quarterfinals, followed by a 3-2 nine-inning semifinal win over Elk County Catholic. The Lady Panthers lost in the D9 title game, 2-1 to five-time defending champion DuBois Central Catholic.
All first-round games will be on Monday, June 3, with St. Marys taking on WPIAL runner-up Hampton at 3 p.m. at Heindl Field in DuBois, and Northern Potter playing against District 6 runner-up West Branch at West Branch at 4 p.m.
The complete Class 4A and 1A brackets are listed below, in order from top to bottom. District and district finish is followed by the team and their overall record and game time and location. There are 16 teams that qualified for the state tournament in each.
