Some new members of the Bradford City police and fire departments were added at Tuesday’s meeting of city council.
Colby Keane was appointed as a cadet hire to the police department to attend the Mercyhurst University Police Academy. Mike McConnell was appointed as a temporary firefighter/emergency medical technician, filling in for an injured member of the department. Tristan Danielson and Kyle Yorty were appointed as part-time firefighters/EMTs, while Jahmair McKenzie was named as summer help as a firefighter/EMT.
Council members accepted a proposal from DK Environmental & Construction Services Inc. to provide lead-based paint testing for the city’s single-family housing rehabilitation program. The cost will be paid from the city’s 2023 Community Development Block Grant program.
At the same time, council accepted a proposal from Gelsick Home Inspection LLC to provide radon testing for the single-family housing rehabilitation program, which will also be paid with CDBG funds from last year.
The sixth change order for the Callahan Park improvement project was approved, adding $11,700 to the total cost of the project. The tennis courts/pickleball courts required an additional coat of paint not specified in the drawings. The total cost for the contract is now $1,029,752.90. The additional cost will be paid for with funds from the city and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Council also approved a special events waiver for JJ’s Saloon on East Main Street for the Kids and Cancer Dice Run afterparty July 27, between 2 and 8 p.m.
A Cole Avenue resident was approved for a PHARE housing grant of $22,900 for emergency home repairs for the replacement of a roof, two exterior doors and two small windows. The work will be done by Hennard Construction.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of city council will be 6 p.m. June 11.
