CUTE: Isn’t it lovely to be able to share that Bradford has made another great list, this one the “Cutest small towns in Pennsylvania to visit in 2024.”
This was from World Atlas. The list isn’t numbered, but Bradford is sharing the spotlight with nine other neat places — Jim Thorpe, Stroudsburg, Lititz, Bellefonte, State College, Ohiopyle, New Hope, Doylestown and Wellsboro.
The photo used for Bradford is one from the Autumn Daze Car Show on Main Street.
The problem? The description includes information about Bradford County.
“Bradford is small with a charming downtown. It was originally a lumber town named Littleton,” it reads. So far, so good.
“The historic town has many museums and historical societies, which Hollywood actors commonly visit in the summertime.” OK.
“It was also the home of Stephen Foster, the ‘father of American Music,’ whose ‘Camptown Races’ was written about the Bradford County horse race.” Bradford County, not McKean. Common mistake, but from an atlas?
“Other historical sites include the Marie Antoinette Lookout, the Farm Museum, and Knapp’s Covered Bridge.” Nope.
“Self-guided walking tours of Historic Downtown take you past Zippo Drive, where the famous lighter was invented.” Close, but true Zippo fans know the story of the lighter’s invention. “Bradford is one of the best towns to visit in 2024, whether for historic tours or stunning scenery.” Yes, that one we can agree with.
We noted, too, that many of these charming places are located near state parks or in places like the Pocono Mountains — Lehigh Gorge State Park at Jim Thorpe, Big Pocono State Park at Stroudsburg, Bald Eagle State Park is one of many near Bellefonte and State College, Ohiopyle State Park at Ohiopyle, and Leonard Harrison State Park at Wellsboro, not to mention the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
