The preliminary budget for the Bradford Area School District was presented at Monday’s board meeting with no projected tax increase.
The only time in the past 20 years when the district raised taxes was the 2015-16 school year, and the 2001-02 school year prior to that.
Also at the meeting, a student who possessed a weapon on April 26 was expelled. Superintendent Katy Pude told The Era that although the student possessed a weapon, there were no threats to anyone.
A bid was approved for cafeteria serving line equipment from HRI Commercial Food Service for $253,400.
A contract was awarded for a project to improve the security of the internal doors between the central administration office and Floyd C. Fretz Middle School. The total cost is $39,558.78, which will be paid through a Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Safety and Security grant. The contract is with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP.
The board approved an overnight trip May 22 for the Environthon team to attend the Environthon State Championship being held at Camp Mount Luther, Mifflinburg.
The board also approved rates for game workers and substitutes.
Under resignations, the board approved the following: Maryanne Cole, substitute; Barry Corbett, substitute; Amber Davenport, English teacher at Bradford High after 17 years; Carla Gigliotti, school counselor at George G. Blaisdell Elementary School; and Tessa Vendetti, music teacher at School Street Elementary School.
Jennie Jones was hired as instrumental music teacher at Bradford Area High School.
Lead teachers were approved, as were supplemental positions.
There was no superintendent’s report at the meeting, as Pude was unable to attend.
The next board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 24.
