COUDERSPORT — In back-to-back barn burners, the Coudersport baseball team managed to squeak out two wins over Port Allegany, sweeping a double-header 6-5 in eight innings and 5-4 in five.
The first game of the day came down to extra innings. After seven frames, Coudy and the Gators were knotted at five a-piece, each scoring sporadically throughout. After getting three outs in four batters, the Falcons took to the batter’s box. An error and a walk put two men on for Coudy before Mason Roessner’s clutch single drove in Owen Deutschlander, breaking the deadlock and giving the Falcons the win.
Deutschlander went 2-for-5 with three scores and one RBI four Coudy while Tyler Carinci went 1-for-3 for Port, with two runs scored and one RBI.
The Falcons once again came up with clutch hits in the nightcap. The Gators, hoping to build up a lead early, struck first. With the bases loaded, Tyler Fillhart, Levi Howard and Henry Troupe drove in runs with ground outs and a single. Howard rounded home plate on an error, putting Port up 4-0.
However, with the sun quickly setting and the light expiring, Coudy’s bats heated up. In the top of the fifth, they too loaded the diamond before Mitch Taylor put the Falcons on the board with a single. Roessner put in another with a sacrifice grounder followed by back-to-back singles from Gavin Ayers and LT Myers. Myers’ single drove in two. Coudy then shut out the Gators with three outs in five batters, persevering their newly acquired lead.
Myers went 1-for-1 with two RBIs for the Falcons, while Howard went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.
