The Safelite Bananas kicked off their Little League season with a narrow victory, beating the Graves Barber Shop Red Sox 7-6.
The Bananas got off to a hot start, scoring three runs from a Dilly Walter two-run RBI double and a Blake Harless RBI single. The Red Sox would respond in the third, starting with an inside the park home run from Griffin Stewart. Thomas Ford would tie the game up with a RBI double that brought in two runs.
Heading into the fifth frame, the Red Sox found themselves down 7-4. They would bring themselves within one with runs from Stewart and Michael Ferchak, but would ultimately run out of time as the weather forced the game to a close.
On the mound, Griffin Atteberry fanned six batters for the Bananas, while relief pitcher Evan Luna would tally one strikeout. Harless would record a single, a double, an RBI and a score, while Walter had a double and two RBIs. Bentlee Confer had two singles and two scores in the win.
For the Red Sox, Dre Skaggs had three strikeouts while on the mound, followed by Eli Reid with two. Alongside his inside the park home run, Stewart finished with a single and two runs scored, while Ferchak had a single, a double and a pair of runs. Skaggs had a two-run RBI double and a score while Ford ended with a RBI double.
Machine Pitch Baseball Sherk’s Landscaping Cubs 10, Otto-Eldred Nippers 5On Sunday, the Cubs took down the Nippers with the help of Blake Sherk’s perfect day at the plate.
Sherk finished 4-for-4 in the win, recording three RBIs, two scores and two doubles as he carried the Cubs to their first win of the season.
Leland Hixenbaugh also was flawless in the batter’s box, finishing 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Nick Popiel and Buck Reid both finished with three runs a piece, with Popiel going 3-for-4 and Reid ending 3-for-4 with one RBI. Ryan Angel went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Jacoby Taylor went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Sawyer Priest went 2-for-4.
Leading the Nippers was Karter Hale, who tallied one run scored and another batted in during his 3-for-3 day at the plate. Blake Bundy went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, Ryon Atkins went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run and Lucas Henning went 3-for-3 with one run scored.
