ST. MARYS — ST. MARYS — Colby Nussbaum had the rare walk-off hit-by-pitch as Elk County Catholic beat Brookville, 6-5 in eight innings.
While the Raiders got on the board first, ECC countered with three runs of their own, starting with an RBI-double from Lance O’Neill before Pat Forster brought in two more with a line drive to left field. The Crusaders got two more runners across home plate off a Brookville error and sacrifice fly from Carter Nussbaum, taking a 5-2 lead, however the Raiders knotted the game with three runs in the seventh.
The Crusaders stopped the bleeding with three quick outs in the top of the eighth that included a double-play and then took to the play to finish it off. Gideon Cronk got on base first with a single before Matt Gilmore and Frankie Smith filled the diamond with consecutive walks. Taking to the plate, Nussbaum put in the game-winning run by being hit by a pitch.
O’Neill went 2-for-4 for ECC with one run and one RBI, Forster had two RBIs and Cronk went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
