Playing a doubled-header against Punxsutawney, the Bradford boys tennis team swept the day with back-to-back 5-2 victories.
As always, Mitch Strauss led the day in the first singles, dispatching Punxsy’s Dana Smith 8-0 in the first match and 8-3 in the second. Cooper Haight and Mason Close both swept the Chucks in both matches, winning in the second and third singles, 9-7 and 8-4, and 8-3 and 8-2, respectively.
“Cooper is only a sophomore and has really picked up the last few matches,” said Bradford head coach Doug Atteberry. “He had all the ability in the world, he just has to eliminate some of his mental mistakes.”
Ward Kennedy filled in the fourth singles in the opening match, winning 8-4, however, Steven Williams took his spot later in the day, losing 8-6.
Landon Lohrman and Williams paired up in the first doubles during the first match, beating the Chuck’s 8-2, while Close and Strauss took a 8-4 win in the first doubles during the second. Both duos of Peyton Haight and Owen Manion and Austin Tingley and Michael Butler were defeated in the second doubles, losing 8-6 and 8-0, however Manion would get some redemption, winning 8-4 in the third doubles of the second match of the day alongside Kennedy. Trenton Johnson and Carter Colley won 8-5 in the third doubles in match No. 1.
With the two wins, Bradford improves to 7-2 overall.
