SMETHPORT — An accused killer and a man allegedly involved in straw purchases of firearms are facing additional charges from a jail fight earlier this month.
Frederick Camejo Jr., 31, of Bradford, and Leshawn Kimbrough, 33, of Bolivar, N.Y., were arraigned Tuesday on separate charges. Camejo, who is incarcerated awaiting trial for charges including homicide for the shooting of Edward Fomby in May 2022, was charged in this instance with obstruction of the administration of law enforcement, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Kimbrough, who is charged with the straw purchase of 20 firearms in McKean County, was charged in this case with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaints, state police were called to the McKean County Jail on April 10 for a fight that had occurred at 2:48 p.m. April 9. The trooper was shown a video of the fight, in which Kimbrough spit in the face of the victim, then the victim threw a cup of water on Kimbrough and a fight ensued. Correctional officers came in to break it up, at which point Camejo “bull rushed” in to try to separate the officers from Kimbrough, saying “Get your hands off him,” the complaint stated. The officers said the entire fight was over within a minute.
One of the witnesses said Camejo and Kimbrough have become “buddies” in the jail, the complaint stated.
The trooper attempted to interview Camejo and Kimbrough regarding the fight, but both men refused to speak to them about the incident, the complaint stated.
Both men were arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Bill Todd, returned to jail on $5,000 bail each for these charges and were scheduled to appear in Central Court on May 2.
Camejo is held without bail on the homicide case, while Kimbrough is being held on $250,000 bail on the firearms case.
