Tuesday’s presidential primary election has many unopposed races on the ballot, with candidates continuing on to the fall general election.
While the Republican primary still has two candidates listed for president — Donald J. Trump and Nikki Haley — Haley has dropped out of the race. On the Democratic ballot is President Joe Biden and Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips, who also dropped out about a month ago.
For U.S. Senate, each ballot has one candidate. The Republican candidate for the ballot is Dave McCormick, while the Democratic candidate is incumbent Sen. Bob Casey.
McCormick, a hedge fund CEO who lost a Senate primary race in 2022 to Dr. Mahmet Oz, has been endorsed by Trump. He’s visited every county in Pennsylvania in a bus tour during his campaign.
Casey is seeking a fourth term, and is the longest-serving Democratic U.S. senator in Pennsylvania history. He is an ally of labor unions and of Biden.
In a contested race, there are multiple candidates in each race for attorney general. Republican candidates are Dave Sunday from York County and Craig Williams of Delaware County.
Sunday is the York County district attorney. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was endorsed by the Pennsylvania GOP and Republican Attorney Generals Association.
Williams is a state representative and is a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran.
On the Democratic side, there are five candidates — Jack Stollsteimer of Delaware County, Eugene DePasquale of Allegheny County, Joe Khan of Bucks County, Keir Bradford-Grey of Philadelphia County and Jared Solomon of Philadelphia County.
Stollsteimer is district attorney for Delaware County, and a former assistant U.S. prosecutor and was Pennsylvania’s Safe Schools Advocate.
DePasquale is a former two-term auditor general and state representative. Khan has been a local and federal prosecutor and county solicitor. Bradford-Grey has been the chief public defender for Montgomery County and was later hired to lead the state’s largest public defender’s association in Philadelphia. Solomon, who serves in the Pennsylvania National Guard, is a state representative.
For auditor general, incumbent Republican Tim DeFoor of Dauphin County is the sole candidate for his party’s nomination. On the Democratic side, candidates are Malcolm Kenyatta of Philadelphia County and Mark Pinsley of Lehigh County.
In the race for the nomination for state treasurer, incumbent Stacy Garrity of Bradford County is unopposed in the primary. Democratic candidates for the ballot are Ryan Bizzarro of Erie County and Erin McClelland of Allegheny County.
Garrity is a decorated U.S. Army veteran. Bizzarro is a state representative from Erie. McClelland is a substance abuse and mental health counselor.
For U.S. representative for the 15th congressional district, each party has one candidate. The Republican candidate is incumbent Glenn Thompson of Centre County, while the Democratic candidate is Zach Womer of Centre County.
For senator in the General Assembly for the 25th senatorial district, incumbent Cris Dush of Jefferson County is unopposed on the Republican ballot, while William McGill of Clinton County recently announced his write-in candidacy for the Democratic nomination.
Setting up a race for the November election, there is one candidate for each party for representative in the General Assembly for the 67th Legislative District. Incumbent Republican Martin Causer and Democrat Rajeev Pradhan are the lone candidates for each party. Both men are from McKean County.
Also on the ballot are delegates to the national conventions for each party. There are eight on the Republican ballot for three spots — Danny Kunselman, Mark J. Harris, Darlene Smail, David H. Rowe, Matthew M. Causer, Fred Keller, Ken Layng and Joyce C. Haas.
On the Democratic ballot are four candidates for four seats — Ezra Nanes, Braxton White, Margie Swoboda and Laura Shadle, all four of which are committed to Biden.
