ST. MARYS — After falling to DuBois a day prior, the Bradford boys’ tennis team got back on the right track with a 7-0 win over Elk County Catholic.
As they have for the majority of the season, Mitch Strauss, Cooper Haight and Mason Close continued their dominance in the first, second and third singles. Strauss finished flawlessly, winning 6-0 and 6-0, Haight won 6-1 and 6-0 while Close took back-to-back 6-1 victories in his sets. Ward Kennedy, in the fourth singles, won 6-3 and 6-4.
Strauss and Close saw more action on Wednesday, pairing up in the first doubles and picked up an 8-0 win. Landon Lohrman and Cooper Haight won 8-1 in the second doubles and Carter Colley and Owen Manion wrapped up the day with an 8-6 win in the third doubles.
“Carter played in his first match and got the win,” said Bradford head coach Doug Atteberry. “It was impressive how Owen and Carter could adapt as well as they did. They were down 0-5 but switched up their strategy and took home the win.”
Next, the Owls face a familiar opponent in DuBois Central Catholic tomorrow in hostile territory.
“We haven’t beaten DCC since I’ve been coaching and they knocked us out of the playoffs the past two seasons,” said Atteberry. “They return seven of their eight players, but we are looking forward to the challenge.”
