The last invoice for the East Warren Road bridge went before Bradford Township supervisors Monday, and was declined.
“The bridge is completely done now,” said supervisor chairman Mark Cline on Tuesday. “That’s it.”
On the agenda for Monday’s meeting was an invoice from Laurel Highlands Structural LLC for $19,107.54. However, Cline explained, “We did not pay him his last invoice.”
The supervisor explained why the township made that decision. During the course of the project, an engineer made a decision that cost the township money.
“One of the engineers suggested we use a composite piling,” Cline explained. “When we got it up here, it didn’t work. We feel he was responsible for the material that didn’t work.”
The supervisors were able to sell some of the composite, but took a loss of $19,480.
With refusing to pay Laurel Highlands’ final bill, the township will come close to breaking even. The difference was $372.46.
The expenses for the bridge project, as of March 11, were recorded as $985,437.49.
Also at the meeting, supervisors were asked to provide an address for a parcel of land on Songbird Road for the new 911 system. The property was given the address of 76 Songbird Road.
An update was given on delinquent garbage and sewer accounts. As of March 30, the outstanding balance was $130,505.66. Several accounts had been sent shut-off notices, and were either paid in full or had payment plans set up.
Also at the meeting, Francis Forbes was named to the township’s zoning hearing board, and Bob Chapman, the only other person who expressed interest, was named as an alternate.
Bradford Township will participate in the Annual Community Improvement Program for Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. The township’s event will be from 9 a.m. to noon April 20. Everyone should meet at the township building starting at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are asked to sign up or call the township office until April 18. Supplies such as safety vests, gloves and trash bags will be provided. Refreshments will be provided during and after the event.
Supervisors approved advertising for a part-time laborer for the road, garbage and sewer department. Applications are due by May 3.
The board approved a subdivision of lands between Timothy Gipe and Britney Griesbaum, as the plans were approved by the planning commission.
The bid for road materials went to IA Construction.
The township’s annual spring cleanup will be May 18.
The next supervisors’ meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 13.
