SMETHPORT — A Bradford woman who was sleeping in her car in the parking lot of Bradford Area Public Library early Saturday morning is in McKean County Jail, charged with assaulting four law enforcement officers.
Victoria Hunt, 62, of 7 Vista Ave. Ext., is charged with four counts of assault of a law enforcement officer, all third-degree felonies; resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor; disorderly conduct — obscene language, a third-degree misdemeanor; disorderly conduct — hazardous condition, a third-degree misdemeanor; and summary offenses.
According to the criminal complaint, at 12:42 a.m., a state trooper observed someone sleeping in a vehicle in the library’s parking lot on West Washington Street in Bradford. He approached the vehicle and saw the woman, later identified as Hunt. He tried to wake her by “pounding on the window several times with no success.” The trooper noted a strong smell of gasoline outside of the vehicle. He continued to pound on the window, eventually waking Hunt, who rolled down the window. The trooper noted a strong smell of alcohol coming from within the vehicle, the complaint stated.
Hunt told the trooper she ran out of gas and she was stranded. She said she tried to put gas in the vehicle, but spilled it all over the ground. The trooper offered to give her a ride home, and she agreed. However, after she got out of her vehicle, “she became belligerent and began to yell obscenities,” the complaint noted. The trooper told her she was going to be arrested for public drunkenness, to which she replied, “I don’t give a f—.”
The trooper told her to walk to the front of his vehicle; she refused. He grabbed her arm, and she pulled away. He grabbed her arm again and pulled her to the patrol car, while she continued to resist. He placed her in cuffs and was attempting to place her in the car, with the help of another trooper and two Bradford City Police officers, and she continued to fight. While police were attempting to get her in the patrol vehicle, she spit on all of them, the complaint stated.
When she was in the patrol vehicle, troopers had to put a “spit hood” on her for transport. She continued to “act belligerent and scream obscenities” throughout her transport to the state police barracks.
She was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. She was scheduled for Central Court on Thursday.
