SHARON — Port Allegany’s Carson Neely is a Northwest Region Class 2A champion once again.
Neely captured the 285-pound title for the second consecutive season and will be joined at states by teammates Aiden Bliss and Miska Young.
Bliss finished third at 172, while Young was third at 215.
They will be joined at states by Kane’s Reese Bechakas (fourth at 160) and St. Marys’ Andrew Wolfanger.
Neely’s run to the title was dominant. He opened with a 59-second pin in the quarterfinals He followed that up with a pin of Commodore Perry’s Garet Guthrie in the second period (2:38). In the finals he also got a pin in the second period at 2:51 against Fort LeBoeuf’s John Duran.
Bliss made it to the semifinals at 172, where he got pinned by eventual champion and 2023 PIAA second-place finisher Hunter Hohman of Grove City. Bliss bounced back with an 11-2 major decision win over Ryan Welka of Fort LeBoeuf in the consolation semifinals.
In the third-place match, he faced Wolfanger, earning a 12-8 decision.
Young also made it to the semifinals, where he dropped a hard-fought 3-0 decision to Ryan Dedrick of General McLane.
Like Bliss, Young came back in the consolation semifinals, beating Coudersport’s Gavyn Ayers to punch his ticket to states. In the third-place match, he edged Greenville’s Teague Calvin, 1-0.
Wolfanger’s semifinal match went extra, and he ultimately ended up getting pinned by Corry’s Mason Savitz in 6:40. In the consolation semifinals, Wolfanger was dominant in a 16-2 major decision over Sharpsville’s Josh Divens to clinch a top four finish.
Bechakas dropped a heartbreaker in the semifinals, 4-3 to General McLane’s Hudson Spires. He came back with a 2-1 win over Vito Gentile of Reynolds in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, he dropped a 7-1 decision to Fort LeBoeuf’s JoJo Przybycien.
Reynolds won the team title with 136.5 points, followed by Clearfield and Grove City with 90.5 points each. Port Allegany was seventh with 81.5 points.
