A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail for the alleged burglary of a Lafayette Township residence last month.
Daniel Joseph Silfies, 57, of 916 High St., is charged with burglary, a first-degree felony; theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, both third-degree felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, on Feb. 27, the victim went to the state police barracks to report a burglary at the residence on Lamont Road. She reported a King pellet stove and a stackable washer/dryer were stolen from the residence. She said a person was doing work at the residence and, around the end of January, brought Silfies with them to help. She told police she noticed the items missing Feb. 27. She said the value of the items was $2,850.95.
On Feb. 29, a witness was interviewed at Bradford City Police Station. He said he is friends with Silfies, and saw the items at his residence. On March 1, state police obtained a search warrant for Silfies’ home, but the items were gone when they arrived. Silfies told police he and Dennis Allen entered the residence and took the pellet stove and the washer/dryer, and that he took the items to recycling centers and sold them for about $50 total, the criminal complaint stated.
Silfies was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Rich Luther and remanded to jail in lieu of $55,000 bail. He is scheduled for Central Court on Thursday.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Allen, 58, of Bradford, on the same charges. He had yet to be arraigned as of Monday.
