SHARON — Three Port Allegany and three St. Marys wrestlers are on to the semifinals at the Class 2A Northwest Regional wrestling championships.
Port Allegany’s Aiden Bliss (172), Miska Young (215) and Carson Neely are on to the semis, as are St. Marys’ Aiden Beimel (127), Jaden Wehler (145) and Andrew Wolfanger (172).
Joining them in the semis are Kane’s Reece Bechakas (160) and Johnsonburg’s Rocco Allegretto (139).
Neely needed just 59 seconds to pin Conneaut’s Drew Dygert in the quarterfinals, while Bliss earned a 19-5 major decision over Reynolds’ Louie Dejulia and Young earned an 11-5 decision over Kael Albers of Corry.
For St. Beimel picked up a third period pin over Maplewood’s Chase Bell, while Wehler needed just 1:21 to pin Corry’s Cody Proper and Wolfanger picked up a 7-3 decision over Fort LeBoeuf’s Ryan Welka.
Bechakas, meanwhile, picked up a 9-4 decision over Cochranton’s Cash Morrell, and Allegretto picked up a pin over Greenville’s Hunter Cox in 4:28.
Wrestling gets underway at 9:15 a.m. Saturday with consolation bracket action, which a number of local wrestlers are still alive in.
