ST. MARYS — Penn-Elk Daughters of the American Revolution members held their last dinner/meeting of 2023 at Gunner’s Restaurant on Dec. 12.

The speaker for the evening was DAR member Karen Ball from DuBois. Her program was entitled, “All that Glitters,” a history of rhinestones. Her presentation included displays of variations of semi-precious stones, including marcasite, mourning jewelry, cloisonne, art nouveau and cameo, which were part of more than 25 types of jewelry in her collection. Her presentation also included construction, cleaning and care and estimated values of select pieces. Ball encouraged ladies to get out their rhinestones and wear them proudly.
