SONG: Joe Costanzo brought by the newsroom an old Bradford relic he found cleaning out an attic recently.
Costanzo turned up a well-preserved packet of sheet music for the song “Back to Bradford.”
With lyrics by Joseph A. Riley and music by Mary J. Bradley, it had been printed for the Old Home Week and Centennial held Aug. 9 to 15, 1925. It was published by the Old Home Week Committee and sold for 30 cents a copy.
My heart has been tuned in,
With a station far away
A station in old Bradford
And they’re calling night and day
Calling from my old hometown
In the Allegheny hills
Back in dear old Pennsylvania
And my thoughts with joy it fills
So I’m going back to Bradford
To the County of McKean
To the State of Pennsylvania
To the towns of which I dream
Yes, I’m going back to Tarport,
Derrick City, Duke and Rew
Sure I’m going back next August
So are you, and you and you
The radio is broadcasting
That we’re all expected there
‘Neath the arches over Main Street
And the big light on the square
I can’t resist the calling
And I’m going back to see
That loved place and loving faces
Which mean so much to me
So I’m going back to Bradford
To the County of McKean
To the State of Pennsylvania
To the towns of which I dream
Yes, I’m going back to Tarport,
Derrick City, Duke and Rew
Sure I’m going back next August
So are you, and you and you
