WORLD KINDNESS DAY — yep, there is a day set aside to be kind to one another; and that day is today.
Kindness is simple. A smile is kind. A hug is kind. A listening ear is kind. An unexpected cup of coffee can be a kind gesture. With all the hate and bullying in the world, take today and offer an act of kindness to somebody, anybody — maybe even yourself. When was the last time you were kind to yourself?
Ways to be kind to yourself include asking for help and accepting help where you need it. This is a hard one. To be kind to someone else, offer help with something that they need help with.
Another way to be kind, take a break. Take a break from social media and television. In their place, practice meditation or mindfulness, start a gratitude journal, garden, play solitaire with actual cards. Someone else might find a gratitude journal or a deck of cards as a gift quite kind.
Practice reflection. Let go of negative thoughts and recognize your uniqueness. Send a friend a happy text or note that compliments them.
Forgive yourself for whatever has been bogging you down. Then forgive others, in your mind or in person. Buy yourself flowers. While you’re at it, buy some for your neighbor or coworker just to be kind.
You never know what is going on with other people’s lives. One act of genuine kindness may be all they need that day. Encouragement and love, compassion and gratitude, are qualities often taken for granted. Put them on display today.
