WASHINGTON (TNS) — U.S. Sen. John Fetterman was released from a Washington, D.C., hospital early Friday evening, his spokesman Joe Calvello said in a statement.
Fetterman, D-Pa., was hospitalized late Wednesday after feeling “lightheaded” at a Senate Democratic retreat but doctors found he did not suffer another stroke. He remained at the hospital being monitored for seizures.
“A few minutes ago, Sen. John Fetterman was discharged from The George Washington University Hospital,” Calvello said in a statement. “In addition to the CT, CTA, and MRI tests ruling out a stroke, his EEG test results came back normal, with no evidence of seizures.”
Fetterman suffered a stroke in May 2022, four days before the Senate primary and was rushed to Lancaster General Hospital. He also had a defibrillator implanted for an irregular heart rhythm.
Fetterman’s doctor said he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy or a weakening of the heart muscles.
He has spoken out about not dismissing signs and symptoms, since ignoring them led to his stroke in the first place.
Calvello said Fetterman is looking forward to spending time with his family and returning to the Senate on Monday.
