CLARION (TNS) — A warrant has been issued for a 13-year-old boy after another teen was shot and killed in Clarion, Clarion County, according to reports from WPXI and KDKA.
The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday along the 400 block of Wilson Avenue.
Once there, first responders found a teenage boy who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as Chase Jones, 13.
Citing police reports, both news outlets said that the victim, the suspect, identified as Laquan Rich-Cabbagestalk, 13, and two other boys had been playing video games in a home when the shooting happened.
A witness told police they heard a gunshot and that Rich-Cabbagestalk said “I shot him.”
Rich-Cabbagestalk ran away but a gun was found by officers near the area he ran towards.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest. He is facing charges of criminal homicide and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Rich-Cabbagestalk is a student at Clarion Area District, according to both news outlets. The district closed today as a result of the shooting and posted the following message on its website:
“Due to a tragedy that occurred in our community, school will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 17. We thank you for your flexibility and understanding at this difficult time. Our condolences go out to all those involved. If your child is in need of counseling services, please contact your building principal,” the message, signed by Superintendent Dr. Tamara Allen-Thomas, read.
