PORT ALLEGANY — Carson Neely needed bonus points.
In the match that would decide the Port Allegany wrestling team’s dual meet against Falconer (N.Y.), that’s exactly what the sophomore got.
Neely’s first-period pin of Thi Vanguilder at heavyweight sealed a 33-31 victory for the Gators. Ian O’Shea, Tristan Kiser and Aiden Bliss all won by fall for Port, while Nick Wilfong, Alden Furgeson and Rylan Arnold all won by decision.
“The atmosphere in the gym was great; I think it was the loudest I’ve heard our gym in a long time,” Port head coach Brad Greenman said. “Our kids wrestled well overall, the biggest take away that I saw was that our kids never stopped wrestling. Four of our wins were matches where we were down big at some point, but our kids kept pecking away at the lead or got a big move for a fall.”
