MOVIES: Eighteen states, including Pennsylvania, chose “Home Alone” as their favorite holiday movie, according to Scholaroo.com.
Twenty-three states chose “The Grinch.”
The study looked at which movie was the most searched for on the Internet, not the most watched.
According to their results, in second place for Pennsylvania was the green Christmas hater himself — spoiler alert, he’s reformed at the end of the movie — “The Grinch.”
In third place for the state was “Falling for Christmas,” which we admit we had to look up. It’s a new film, out this year on Netflix, starring Lindsay Lohan.
In fourth place was “Elf,” the Will Farrell comedy that has become a Christmas staple.
And in fifth place was “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
We found it interesting that two versions of the Grinch made the list.
In New York state, the list was similar, but with one exception — the fifth place movie was “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
We checked on the movie critic site Rotten Tomatoes to see what made the top of the list for the best Christmas films of all time. Number one was “Meet Me in St. Louis,” the 1944 Judy Garland musical comedy.
The list puts “Miracle on 34th Street” at number three, the action film “Die Hard” at number eight and “It’s a Wonderful Life” at number ten.
“A Christmas Story” came in at number 15, “Gremlins” at 22, “Elf” at 25 and strangely, “Batman Returns” at 28. That’s the one with Danny Devito as The Penguin and Michele Pfeiffer as Catwoman.
“White Christmas” also made the list at number 32, while “The Muppet Christmas Carol” was at 34. “Home Alone” was at number 80 per Rotten Tomatoes, while “The Polar Express” was at number 92.
