Of course, where else would the owners of the Model T go on vacation, the 2022 National Chicken Wing Festival only makes sense if you know Jason and Pam Campbell, owners of the restaurant with the car on the roof in Derrick City.
Jason is the, as in the cook, at the Model T. He rarely takes time off. So, when he took time to go on vacation, it had to be a big deal. And, it was.
Over the holiday weekend, the couple headed over, for a day, to Highmark Stadium — that’s where the Buffalo Bills football team plays for those not in the know — in Orchard Park, N.Y. It must have been like watching a child getting to go to the amusement park. By all accounts, Jason was excited to go and have a good time, to not be the cook for a day.
“No, I did not compete this year. No one from our place was in the competition. I was there to enjoy the day and try some new things,” he said.
And he did.
Pam snapped a quick picture of a very happy Jason as he was hanging out with a couple of VIP Chefs at the stadium.
“It was odd,” he stated. “I tried lots of wings, many had a breading or something on them. We don’t do that (in his kitchen).”
And, according to Jason, there was more than just chicken wings at the festival.
“There were vendors and pizza, live music playing, and so many people,” he said.
Hundreds of thousands of people from across the country have attended this event over the years, according to research.
The festival celebrated its 20th year this year. The website states, the Wingfest has drawn the attention of media throughout the world, including many appearances on Fox News, CNN, The Travel Channel, The Food Network, CBS Morning Show, ABC News, The View and Regis and Kelly, NBC’S Today Show, and was also the subject for a PBS Documentary.
The festival also drew the attention of the Food Network as Food Icon Bobby Flay came to Buffalo for a chicken wing throwdown and Emeril Lagasse filmed the festival for a show on Buffalo Wings.
Let’s see what the Model T brings back from their trip for Bradford to enjoy.
