Voter registration in our area has been a hot topic. Cameron County has seen a shift in voter registrations that mirror many of our neighboring counties.
Twenty years ago, Cameron County showed an even split between Democrat and Republican voters. As of August 2022, Republican voter registrations make up 60% of all voters in Cameron County, with Democrat registrations dropping by almost 20 points to below 30% for the entire county. There is an energy in rural areas that fits the Republican Party platform championing small business and reducing government bureaucracy to allow all to succeed.
The Republican Party is based on conservative politics and making the right incremental changes to move our towns, state and country forward. At the heart of conservatism is conservation and protecting our wild places. Cameron County residents choose to live here because they believe in the value of a quiet walk in the woods and getting together with friends to fish pristine streams.
Our forests and state parks are important to our livelihood, our communities, our identity. It’s important that all citizens get involved so we can advocate for our candidates and ensure they have our interests in the front of their minds.
With these ideas as part of our foundation and with the energy of the Republican shift in our area, the Cameron County Republican Party will continue to push these priorities and encourage local leaders to adopt the conservative ideals.
One can feel the energy during our monthly meetings. We see more friends and neighbors show up on Saturday mornings. We get more residents stopping by at our voter registration tables at local festivals and events. We want to meet all of you and welcome you to attend our monthly meeting at the Aroma Cafe at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month.
We look forward to seeing everyone there who wants to help us get the word out around the county about our candidates and about how we want to help strengthen all Cameron County communities.
