SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Hollidaysburg Little League, the Pennsylvania state champions, dropped their opening game of the Little League World Series to Pearland, Texas at Howard J. Lamadie Stadium.
Hollidaysburg, representing the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, lost an early-game lead en route to an 8-3 loss to Texas, which represents the Southwestern region. A six-run fifth inning by Pearland put Hollidaysburg away, as Texas’ bats got hot late in the game.
Hollidaysburg scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, one on an RBI single by Braden Hatch and the other on an RBI single by Beau Rabel. Texas got even with two in the third, and after Pearland’s pitching silenced PA’s bats, the big fifth inning made the difference.
In the tournament’s double elimination format, Hollidaysburg will play an elimination game against New England at 7 p.m. Saturday. That game will be broadcasted on ESPN2.
