Open Arms Church is providing an opportunity for area children to walk confidently into the upcoming school year — literally.

Applications are being taken for children to receive a $50 Shoe Dept. Encore gift card, to be given out at the Super Summer Bash/Back-to-School Outreach on Aug. 21 after Open Arms Church’s 11 am service.

“The past couple years have left many people with a financial hit,” said Laura Blackwell, missions coordinator at Open Arms. “A good pair of shoes can offer comfort, confidence, and get you where you need to go. Just like Jesus does for the soul.”

The event will include games, giveaways and gift cards. Picnic food will also be provided.

“This event is important because it teaches kids the truth and love that Jesus has for us and that we should have for each other– love everyone no matter where they are from– just love,” said Annette Dennison, Open Arms Children’s Ministry coordinator.
