SALAMANCA, N.Y. — The Allegany State Park Environmental Education and Recreation Department and Western New York Mountain Biking Association are “glowing” about a new adventure scheduled from 9 to 11 p.m. on Friday, July 1, entitled “Fat Bikes and Fireflies.”
Fat Bikes and Fireflies is a unique opportunity to witness the rare synchronous firefly from the seat of a bike. The dark hemlock forests and numerous streams make Allegheny State Park prime habitat for these luminous bugs.
Since the ride is off road and in the dark, this event is for riders 18 years old and up. Organizers request that participants bring their own light, red is preferred.
Registration is required and space is limited. Call (716) 354-9101 ext. 232 to secure a spot.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees more than 250 parks, historic sites, recreational trails, golf courses, boat launches and more.
