RECIPE FOR DAD: Father’s day is fast approaching, and it seems like the same question every year is what to get the guy who has everything he needs, right?
How ‘bout this year, try something a little different and either give him the recipe below or use it to make him his own special BBQ sauce when he makes that next batch of grilled chicken.
Dad’s Famous Bourbon BBQ Sauce is a recipe from the PA Liquor Control Board.
Ingredients: ¾ c Bourbon; 4 cloves of garlic, minced; ½ onion, minced; 2 c ketchup; ½ c brown sugar; 1/3 c apple cider vinegar; ¼ c tomato paste; ¼ c Worcestershire sauce; ½ Tbsp salt; ½ tsp black pepper.
Directions: In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the first three ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes. Mix in the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes. Run sauce through a strainer to thin and enjoy.
If dad is like many of the men out there, subtle hints may not be the way to go. It might be a good idea to package a great gift like this one with a new bag of charcoal, new utensils and brush for the grill, and possibly a fun apron for the chef.
Oh, and add the open bottle of bourbon, if that is a beverage dad would enjoy.
Father’s Day is June 19 this year. Wow, what a gift this could turn out to be.
There are lots of choices for Made in Pennsylvania wine and spirits, too, some of which are made right in the Pennsylvania Wilds.
