I was saddened to learn of Fran De Lancey’s passing in a recent edition of The Era. I had the privilege and great fortune of knowing Fran in my work at the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission and my 13 years on the Bradford Regional Airport Advisory Committee.
Fran was always up for a good chat at the airport and was truly interested in the airport thriving in the future. Fran and I also collaborated of a few stories for The Era’s annual regional business outlook published every February. That annual report is a great Era feature and something I look forward to every year. His interest, attention to detail, and “can you document that” ensured his commitment to accuracy in writing/reporting, one of Fran’s many strong qualities
Fran’s outgoing personality, his low-key approach and his ability to make you feel comfortable about a story are things I will always remember about his professionalism. Upon Fran’s retirement about a year after mine The Era had a wonderful story about Fran and his collection of political memorabilia that I am sure he enjoyed sharing.
As I am saddened to learn this news, I rejoice at having known him for 13 years. From one avid newspaper nut to another, may God bless your soul in eternity, Fran, whether or not you can document it!
