The Community Blood Bank is the exclusive provider of blood and blood products to the hospitals of the northwest Pa. region, and over the past several weeks, the number of donors showing up each day has reduced, creating a struggle to meet the needs of their hospitals.
Donating blood is a free, impactful way to give back to the community — in less than one hour. Community Blood Bank also wants to provide an impactful reward to potential donors.
“We don’t want to see rising gas prices prevent your summer travel plans, so all donors in May are entered to win a $1,000 Gas gift card,” said Sydnee Groenendaal, mobile drive coordinator.
Bradford will host a blood drive from noon until 5 p.m. Monday, May 23 at St. Bernard’s Church, 95 E. Corydon St.
The Covid-19 pandemic has prolonged a blood shortage locally, as well as across the country. The upcoming summer months present an even greater need for donors. Summer months are impacted by a 25% reduction in donations that are provided by local high school and college blood drives. Instead, Community Blood Bank needs to rely on donors attending community drives throughout the region.
Appointments to donate are encouraged in order to reduce donor’s wait time, but are not required. Walk-ins will be taken as space allows. Call (814) 572-1699 to schedule an appointment to donate.
