PORT ALLEGANY — The Bradford softball team’s bats came alive on Thursday, as two double-digit scoring efforts helped the Lady Owls double their season win total.
Bradford swept a doubleheader at Port Allegany, using a big inning in each contest to win each comfortably. The Lady Owls took Game 1, 12-0, in five innings before taking Game 2, 17-7, in six innings.
At the heart of both games was the lineup depth that Bradford has hoped to see come to fruition all season. In Thursday’s first game, that happened in the 4th inning, as the Lady Owls used five hits — and some help from the Lady Gators — to piece together a 10-run inning.
Kelsey Deming went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Game 1, while Maddie Dougherty was 1-for-3 with two runs driven in. The Lady Gators issued 13 walks in the contest.
Kalie Dixon threw both games for Bradford, striking out six batters while allowing two walks and one hit in Game 1. She followed that up by striking out seven in the second tilt, allowing four walks and four hits.
Port roared out to a Game 2 lead with a five-run 1st, but the Lady Owls went ahead for good with seven runs in the 4th. Alanna Benson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while Dixon had two hits and two RBI.
Olivia Angell added two hits and three RBI for Bradford, and Kadence Martin had two hits and two RBI. Tori Tanner drove in two runs on two hits for Port, while Thea Petruzzi and Madison Smith each added an RBI.
