SMETHPORT — The Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit Nine held its twelfth annual student art exhibit on Wednesday. An open house with the student artists began at 4 p.m.
The contest was open to all 14 school districts within IU9. This year, seven school districts participated and nine winners were chosen.
Winners are 5th grade student Marshall Hoppus of Austin Area Elementary School; 7th grade student Kaitlyn Horton of Austin Area High School; 10th grade student Grace Morgan of Galeton High School; 7th grade student Terin Boschert of Kane Area Middle School; 8th grade student Lillian Steele of Northern Potter Middle/High School; 2nd grade student Dallas Bundy of Otto-Eldred Elementary School; 10th grade student Zebulin Raught of Otto-Eldred High School; 4th grade student Connor Mantz of Port Allegany Elementary School; and 8th grade student Leanna Smith of St. Marys Area Middle School.
A copy of the winning entries will be displayed in the hallway in the IU9 building, located at 119 S. Mechanic Street, for the 2022 — 2023 school year.
Each school district conducted the judging and used the following criteria to select the winners — 34 percent originality, 33 percent creativity and 33 percent aesthetic value.
In October, schools will start the process again for the thirteenth annual event.
