SMETHPORT — In a wild offensive display that featured momentum shifts throughout, the Kane softball team prevailed over Kane 22-12, to pick up a non-league victory Tuesday in Smethport.
After the Lady Wolves put up eight 1st-inning runs, Smethport knotted things up by the end of three, scoring five runs in the second inning and three more in the third. Janelle Ditch had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the dish for the Lady Hubbers, hitting a grand slam and a two-run homer.
Elizabeth Hungiville hit with some power, as well, driving a two-run homer over the fence during her 2-for-4 day. Smethport’s Madi Faes went 2-for-3.
Both squads went even in the fourth with four runs, but a 10-run fifth inning by Kane turned a 12-12 barnburner into a lopsided afair. Kane pitcher Leah Tigani limited Smethport to seven hits, which included the Dench and Hungaville barrage, but was otherwise solid in striking out seven and walking three while withstanding fuve Kane errors.
Maya Smith went 2-for-5 hitting for the Lady Wolves. Her teammates Hailey Slater and Kate Parana provided some run support, combining for five RBI.
