QUESTIONS: We enjoyed reading through the citizenship test and refreshing our knowledge of civics.
There were a few things that we had forgotten. For example, did you know there are 16 Cabinet level positions? We could name some, but not how many there were. In addition to the attorney general and vice president, there are secretaries of agriculture, commerce, defense, education, energy, health and human services, homeland security, housing and urban development, interior, labor, state, transportation, treasury and veterans affairs.
Maybe folks could name who is in these positions, but to be honest, we didn’t get very many right.
Vice president, of course, is Kamala Harris. That one we knew. Secretary of State is Antony Blinken. OK, so we remembered his last name, which is a memorable one.
Here are the rest: Dr. Janet Yellen is secretary of the treasury, Merrick Garland is attorney general, Tom Vilsack is secretary of agriculture, Lloyd Austin is secretary of defense, Deb Haaland is secretary of the interior, Gina Raimondo is secretary of commerce, Marty Walsh is secretary of labor, Xavier Becerra is secretary of health and human services, Marcia Fudge is secretary of HUD, Pete Buttigieg is secretary of transportation, Jennifer Granholm is secretary of energy, Dr. Miguel Cardona is secretary of education, Denis McDonough is secretary of veterans affairs.
Alejandro Mayorkas is head of homeland secretary, Michael Regan is administrator of the EPA, Avril Haines is director of national intelligence.
That sure is a lot for people to learn. And it changes with each administration. This is one of the plethora of reasons it is important to read your newspaper.
