On Thursday evening the First United Church held a special Maundy Thursday service drama, with around 70 people in attendance. The Church presented the play, “The Other Carpenter,” and took Holy communion.
The play was under the direction of Pastor Rick Nelson and the cast included Chuck Church, Kim Preston, Alice Panek, Darren Litz, Brad Preston, Deb Rice and Kim Litz.
“The Other Carpenter” is a heartwarming drama of help and hope about a Jewish family preparing for Passover when the grandfather is offered a job to build the cross that Jesus would be crucified upon. Having built many things, he approaches the job in a matter-of-fact way. However, after building the cross, he feels an uncharacteristic despair over what he’s done. How can Jesus, who has died, ever forgive the one who made his cross? He can — and he did.
