RAISE THE WOOF: Today is National Pet Day!
Four legged, two winged, finned and flat-bellied – whatever your pet, today is their day.
TopCashback.com conducted a survey that polled a cross-section of 2,899 adults, aged 18 and over.
Of the 81 percent with at least one pet, most had dogs (70 percent), followed by cats (48 percent). Fish and birds as pets came in third and fourth respectively on the survey.
Have you ever wondered why some people have a pet? The survey asked pet owners what their favorite thing about having a pet was and the top answers were surprising. The top two responses by participants was that a pet lowers their stress and that they never feel lonely. Since April is Stress Awareness Month, add hugging or petting your furbaby to the list of stress relievers.
They also found, 27 percent of Americans spend more money on their pet(s) than themselves.
Twenty-three percent of respondents reported spending only $100 to $250 per pet, excluding veterinarian expenses, however, 26 percent spent up to $1,000 per year.
Many pet parents look for discounts when they can — Rebecca Gramuglia, consumer expert at TopCashback.com, offers a few tips:
Do-it-fur-self (DIY) — Look for nutritious, pet-friendly ingredients at home, such as rice, raw vegetables and lean proteins. Plus, you’ll know exactly what you’re feeding your fur-ever friend. Ask your vet to ensure the ingredients are safe.
