Andrew Kane’s four victories led the way for Bradford as the Owls defeated St. Marys, 106-42, for the program’s 50th-consecutive dual meet victory.
Kane won the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, long jump and pole vault. His times of 11.4 seconds in the 100 and 23.8 seconds in the 200 were each a personal best.
“(Kane) has really worked hard and it shows,” Bradford coach Tom Tessena said. “His form is so good, and he will just keep getting those times down and his distances up.”
Manny Diaz added three victories for the Owls, claiming the 1600-meter run in 4:40 and the 3200 in 10:24. Diaz also anchored Bradford’s victorious 3200-meter relay team with a 2:09 split.
Joining Diaz in the 3200 relay were Brayden Friar, Joe Caruso and Ian Pilon, who combined for a time of 8:48.
A come-from-behind effort by Leo Paterniti and Jerid Wilmoth sparked an Owl victory in the 1600-meter relay. Trailing by 50 yards, Paterniti ran a 53.6-second split to bring Bradford back into the race before Wilmoth’s 54.6-second lap gave the Owls a victory in a total time of 3:42.
Wilmoth added a victory in the 400-meter dash while Troy Adkins, who also ran on the 1600-meter team, won the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump.
Parker Shipman was a double winner for Bradford, claiming the shot put with a distance of 36-2 and the discus in 109-2. With many Owls competing in three or four events, Tessena said, Tuesday’s home opener was a notable one for Bradford track.
“They showed some true grit (Tuesday),” Tessena said. “Our runners really improved today and our field guys are getting better, as well.”
The streak of 50-consecutive victories is the program’s second longest, only behind a stretch of 91 dual meet wins from 2000-11. The Owls will host Kane and Johnsonburg next Tuesday.
“This is a performance we can build on,” Tessena said. “Kane has some great track guys and Johsnonburg has some strong people, as well. It will be a good meet.”
