The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team played its first games in front of a home crowd on Wednesday but was unable to keep up with Hilbert as they lost both games of the doubleheader.
The Panthers were able to jump out to an early lead, but the visitors scored 10 unanswered runs over the final three innings of play to win the game 13-5. They scored three in the 1st inning, only to see that matched in the top of the 2nd. They took a second 2-run lead in the 4th, but were unable to add any more runs in the game.
Alex Fetter (0-4) got the loss after allowing 6 runs, 4 earned, in 5+ innings of work. He allowed 6 hits, and 5 walks, and struck out 5. Evan Fragela had the lone multi-hit game for the Panthers as he went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Noah Meyers also had 2 RBIs and Justin Dattoli drove in the 5th run.
The nightcap of the doubleheader saw the Panthers’ offense struggle to get into rhythm as the Hawks slowly added runs, eventually winning 8-0.
Kyler Majka (3-2) got the loss after allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits and 6 walks. He struck out 6 batters. Ben Mulhall threw four innings in relief, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits and a walk. He struck out two. The Panthers were only able to muster four hits in the game. They were all singles from Kevin Rehak, Jake McNabb, Evan Fragela and Noah Meyers.
