A FOOL FOR YOU: There’s no question that April Fools’ Day is one of the most widely recognized non-religious holidays in the Western world. Although it has been celebrated for several centuries by many cultures, its exact origin remains unknown.
One of the more popular theories behind the origin of April Fools’ Day dates back to the year 1582, when the world officially switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. When the calendars switched, so did the date of the new years celebration — those who celebrated it on the old date of April 1, were known as “April Fools.”
It became commonplace to play pranks on these “April Fools,” such as having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person
Flash forward 440 years and we still celebrate the holiday, however celebrations of the holiday today make playing a prank on any person fair game, and pranks have evolved a bit from the fish days.
So here are a few fun prank ideas for parents to play on their children today:
If your child has a smartphone or tablet, change the language on the devices to a different one (within the settings menu).
Put salt in their toothbrush, the salt will be unnoticeable in the bristles and it is sure to get your children wide awake!
Pick up your kids from school wearing an outrageous wig and ask them for their opinion about the salon’s performance.
Take your toddler out to the yard in the morning and plant a handful of cheerios. They’ll be shocked when those seeds have grown into a dozen doughnuts by the afternoon.
